Face makeup is everything that evens out skin tone before colour reaches cheeks, eyes and lips: foundation and tinted cream, BB cream, cushion, concealer and contouring shades. They differ in coverage, in texture and in how much of the face they cover.
Foundation, BB cream and cushion go across the whole face — the first two applied with fingers, a sponge or a brush, the cushion pressed on with a puff, which makes touch-ups through the day easier. A concealer works point by point, on post-blemish marks and under-eye shadows, and is denser for that reason. Contouring shades do not cover but shape: the darker one along the edges of the face, the lighter one where you want more light.
Choose in this order: coverage first — how much needs hiding, then the finish — matte or dewy, and only then the shade, which is tested along the jawline rather than on your hand. Once the base is done, next come powders to set it, blush for colour and eye makeup.
