Accessories do two jobs the cosmetics themselves cannot: put a product exactly where it should go, and keep the jar clean while doing it. Mask makers know this best — one Korean brand sells its silicone mask brush on its official site right alongside its face masks and describes it as a soft, hygienic silicone brush: the mask is scooped and spread with the tool, not with fingers.
With makeup brushes the tip decides everything. A silicone tip is smooth and meant for dense textures like masks and packs that need spreading over a wide area. Bristles do the opposite job: packed densely, they hold an edge, which is why the maker of a pocket lip brush describes it as having “densely packed bristles for detailed and accurate lip makeup” — the choice when a stroke has to land exactly, along the lip line for instance.
The third question is where the tools live. The small lip brush is, in the maker’s words, built to fit “into any pocket, purse, or makeup bag” and cover touch-ups during the day. And some accessories have crossed over into jewellery: a surgical-steel chain worn as a bag charm, a crossbody chain or a necklace — steel chosen, the maker notes, because it does not discolour and does not trigger allergic reactions.
