Elizavecca (엘리자베카 in Korean) is a brand of the Seoul company Miz Trade. The company has been in business since 1986; it launched the SE-SALO brand in 1993 and Elizavecca in 2011. Elizavecca's brand page sets out its goal: to become "cosmetics for the whole country" (국민 화장품) by putting the customer's skin first and making reliable products from carefully selected raw materials. The brand repeats the same idea in English on its Instagram: "Reliable cosmetics produced from carefully selected raw materials considering skin first". It is just as direct about price: Elizavecca keeps its own prices free of the marketing and advertising costs built into the price of ordinary cosmetics and counts on satisfied customers coming back. The brand sums up its principle in two words, Price and Materials, meaning an honest price and good raw materials. All Elizavecca cosmetics are made in Korea by factories under contract to Miz Trade.
A long-eared logo and pigs on the jars
The jars of Elizavecca's best-selling masks feature a pink piglet, but the brand's logo is something else: a black long-eared creature in big white glasses. "Piggy" is part of the names of several lines: Green Piggy, Milky Piggy, Witch Piggy, Donkey Piggy, Farmer Piggy and others. In its own sales ranking the brand puts Green Piggy Collagen Jella Pack, a collagen jelly mask, in first place: more than a million jars have been sold, and, the brand says, it first won recognition abroad. Second place in the same ranking goes to Milky Piggy Carbonated Bubble Clay Mask, which the brand calls a "global hit". It is a clay mask with kaolin, charcoal powder and carbonated water, and a few minutes after you apply it, it starts to bubble. Apply it to a dry face, avoiding the skin around the eyes; it can even go over makeup, but the brand suggests removing eye makeup first. After three to five minutes, once the bubbles have risen, wipe them off, massage your face with a little lukewarm water and rinse. The brand says the mask suits every skin type, and when a customer asked how often to use it, the brand answered: two or three times a week. CER-100: hair masks and care after colouring, blow-drying and straightening
For hair, Elizavecca has a separate series, CER-100, with more than ten products: hair masks, leave-in products, shampoos, a conditioner, an oil, an essence and styling products. The series' main product is CER-100 Collagen Ceramide Coating Protein Treatment, a rinse-off hair mask. It contains ceramide NP (10 mg) and hydrolysed collagen (100 ppm), alongside silk, keratin and wheat, soy, corn and oat proteins. According to the brand, collagen gives hair shine and softness, soy protein helps weakened hair look healthier, oat protein supports elasticity, and the ceramide holds in moisture. The collagen in this mask, as the brand told a customer, comes from pigs. The brand recommends it for four types of hair: hair that is often coloured or permed; hair that is often blow-dried or styled with a flat iron; hair that is coarse, dry and tangles when brushed; and hair that is curly, frizzy and breaks easily. After shampooing, apply it along the full length of towel-dried hair, leave it on for 5 to 20 minutes and rinse with lukewarm water.
The series has two shampoos with almost identical names. CER-100 Collagen Coating Hair A+ Muscle Shampoo is for hair worn out by frequent colouring and perms: the brand says it contains seven collagen and protein ingredients. CER-100 Collagen Coating Hair A+ Muscle HellTornado Shampoo is a scalp shampoo: menthol and tea tree oil give a cooling feel, and the brand recommends it for everyday use on oily scalps. CER-100 Hair Muscle Essence Oil is a light, non-sticky oil that adds shine and tames static; the brand highlights argan oil and five other plant oils in it: sea buckthorn, evening primrose, macadamia, almond and avocado. It contains no collagen or ceramide. After washing, apply two or three pumps to the ends of towel-dried hair and to any dry, damaged areas; according to the brand, you can do this every day. The brand sets out this order for the series: shampoo, then the hair mask, drying and, last, a leave-in "ion injection", CER-100 Collagen Coating Protein Ion Injection.
